It all started almost a year ago when peering down from my balcony I noticed a large heart drawn in the intersection of Lowther Road and Bedford Avenue. At the end of January 2010 it was paved over by some (heartless) city servants. The day before Valentine’s, I awoke to the fire red outline re-casting its presence in this intersection once again. Secretly I was hoping some enamored hopeful creeped in under the darkness of night to profess their love – something we’ll never know but regardless it was as sweet an act of rebellion I’ve ever seen.
From that point, I started noticing red hearts all over the city. Perhaps it’s someone’s lovesick form of graffiti, and if that’s the case, all the power to them. Here is a collection of hearts that I have discovered all over this great city. It transforms ‘wearing your heart on your sleeve’ into a whole new meaning.
I love these. Simply. Beautifully. Most are from around my neighbourhood but some spread north and some spread south. Most likely they are not all from the same culprit but it just shows you, that if you’re open to it, love is everywhere. Even on a beer-soaked table at Sneaky Dees.
