Song of the day (No. 114): Pack Up – Eliza Doolittle

Young rising British starlet Eliza Doolittle is the undeniable sparkling gemstone of this week’s song posts. She’s only 22 and has been writing songs since she was 12. For those not mathematically inclined, that works out to being almost half her little life scrawling lyrical wonders on paper.

The video below is for her debut single ‘Pack Up’ off of her debut album, and it beautifully samples George Henry Powell’s ‘Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag’. Doolittle’s sweet, soulful pipes compliment his rich, hearty ones creating a vocal pairing transcending both eras and age.

I absolutely adore the video for ‘Pack Up’. It’s playful, inspired and whimsical and show us that Doolittle’s gams do more than look pretty, they dance. Or grooooove shall we say.

Expect to hear a lot more of this raven-haired beauty. She’s been making feet tap and  shoulders sway at an exponential rate across the pond and it’s only a matter of time before the ripple effect washes up on Canadian shores.
